Family Farming56 almanaCfamily farm can be a small farm adapted to specific markets and products, or a big farm. In either case, the concept of a family farm is linked to greater resilience and a greater capacity to adapt to change. The value of European agriculture lies first and foremost in quality. In Europe and in the world, whether we look at big or small farms, the future of our agri-food sector is closely linked to quality – quality understood in all its dimensions, including taste, tradition, food safety and environmental standards. The CAP has developed a se- ries of tools to make the most of the diversity found across Europe and generate added value. This is, for example, the case with our quality policy. The schemes that we have developed over time at a European level, such as Protected Denomina- tions of Origin or Protected Geographical Indications, encourage diversified agri- cultural production, protect product names from misuse and imitation, and help consumers by giving them information about a product’s specific characteristics.
