Family FarmingResilientFarmerscaRlo petRinislow Food pResident8 almanaCThis year’s Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre, held from October 23 to 27, will focus on two vital issues at the heart of Slow Food’s activities: the Ark of Taste (in other words biodiversity protection) and family farming. The latter reflects the fact that 2014 has been declared the International Year of Family Farming by the United Nations. Our Terra Madre food communities can be seen an authentic and tangible expression of what we call “family farming.”By focusing attention on these two subjects, Slow Food is not moving away from its work over the past years. Our central objective has always been the defense of the world’s food and agricultural heritage, and the protection of all those who, in harmony with the planet’s resources, produce food for eating – not commodities for profit. These two subjects are deeply interconnected and have a single word in common: “resilience.” The word comes from the Latin resilire, meaning, “rebound,© Paola VIESI
