8 AlMAnACCoWE fEEd thE PLanEtYoung people are another essential element to guaranteeing the planet’s nourish- ment. This is why we’re bringing thousands of farmers, food artisans, fishers, no- mads, Indigenous Peoples, cooks, students and activists from all over the world to Milan in early October—all the young actors from along the food production chain. Focusing on youth has great significance: Expo 2015 asks how we will manage to feed the planet in the future, with a growing population and ever more fragile natural resources. Nobody is more qualified to respond to this question than the young peo- ple who have chosen to dedicate their lives to protecting and cultivating the planet. They are the ones who every day, in every corner of the planet, foster growth. And not just economic growth, but the growth of our dignity, culture and happiness. And they have be aware that even if they live in a remote village in the Andes or on a desert oasis, with their work they make up a strong and beautiful system— because they aren’t alone, but are part of a large, united family.With their closeness to the land, farmers do much more than produce food. They teach us how to protect seeds, plants, animal breeds, water, soil and other sourc-
